James Knowles was appointed to the position of Chief Financial Officer in June of 2016, and is responsible for the finance, strategy, and risk management functions for the Company.
Prior to joining Penfield Marine in April 2014 as a Vice President of Finance, James was a Director of Derivatives and Risk Management at Heidmar Inc. where he had oversight of a portfolio of Freight Futures Agreements (FFAs) and fuel oil derivatives, and the risk analysis of time-charter trading activities. James was also the Head of Research and led Asset Management initiatives designed to provide investment services to non-traditional shipping investors.
Before joining Heidmar, James was an underwriter of structured credit products at Radian Asset Assurance, focusing on soft capital products for financial institutions, Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDOs) and Asset Backed Securities (ABS). James has also held roles as a management consultant and in economic policy research.
James received his MBA from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in Finance, and graduated magna cum laude from Colgate University with a major in Mathematical Economics.
